The LORD knoweth the way of the righteous

As you may know, I have a daily Bible reading page on the site, it’s an easy way of being able to read through the Bible in a year. One day I would like to add more Bible reading plans and options, at the moment it’s a chronological ‘read through the Bible in a year’ in the King James version of the Bible. Or as some people like to call it, the ‘Authorised Version’.
Today begins the journey through the book of Psalms , a book which incidentally contains both the longest chapter in the bible (Psalm 119 which has 176 verses) and the shortest (Psalm 117 which has but two) and it struck me how in today’s readings - Psalms 1 to Psalms 8 - the consequences for choices we make in life are clearly spelled out.
Here are verses 1 and 2 of Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
I don’t know about you, but I like the idea of being blessed. It means literally “oh, the happiness”. A sentiment expressed a great deal by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount.
By contrast, verse six lays out what is in store for the ungodly:
For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
In their commentary on the Bible, Jamieson Fausset and Brown summarise Psalm 1 as follows “The character and condition, and the present and future destiny, of the pious and the wicked are described and contrasted, teaching that true piety is the source of ultimate happiness, and sin of misery”
In Psalm 7 verse 11 we read
11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
Angry with the wicked…… I wouldn’t want God to be angry with me.
I chose God a long time ago, and I hope you did too.
If you haven’t already made that choice, why not do it today?
