The title of the six-time Grammy Award winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir’s 28th CD is “Declare Your Name” and at 10am on Saturday, January 23, 2010, the legendary ensemble will indeed declare the name of Jesus Christ as they take to the streets of New York City waving thousands of purple flags (signifying royalty in the Bible) and singing songs of joy. “We want people to join us in TAKING PURPLE to the City of New York,” says the choir’s founder, Carol Cymbala. “We want to present a symbol of hope to a hopeless world.”

Members of the 300 member choir together with 200 like-minded believers will gather at the church’s Brooklyn headquarters and march across the Brooklyn Bridge into lower Manhattan, where they will distribute tickets for a free concert celebration the following day.

The concert, commemorating their latest CD, “Declare Your Name” (Integrity Music), will be held Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 3 PM at the Brooklyn Tabernacle, 17 Smith Street in Brooklyn, NY. Cymbala adds, “The project ‘Declare Your Name’ is fresh and new, full of original songs of encouragement and hope. Now is the time to spread this joy throughout the city.”

Since 1983, the choir has earned six Grammy Awards, six Dove Awards, and an R.I.A.A. gold certification for their “He’s Been Faithful” project. They have been written up in The New York Times, performed at Radio City Music Hall, and have appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
